Terje Gewelt: Interplay

MICs Listen to Norway series continues with Terje Gewelt: Interplay

Terje Gewelt: (cover) Interplay

“Interplay” is veteran bassist Terje Gewelt’s third solo outing and second album in a duo setting with pianist Christian Jacob. Gewelt is today one of Norway’s most respected jazz bassists who performs with several of the genre’s central performers ranging from Norwegian sax player Knut Riisnæs to international players such as drummer Billy Cobham. French born, USA-based Christian Jacob is perhaps best known for his stint as a sideman with Brazilian vocalist Flora Purim as well as being a Concord recording artist. “Interplay” sees the two move through a repertoire of intimate bass/piano duo outings that feature a high degree of almost telepathic interaction. Strong melodies, rich harmonies and spirited improvisation round out a vibrant album that’s destined to last.
