Hilde Torgersen: Voice Stories - voice and electronics

MIC’s Listen to Norway profile series continues with Hilde Torgersen’s Albedo album "Voice Stories - voice and electronics".

Hilde Torgersen:

Voice Stories consists of pieces for voice and electronics. Linking all of the pieces together is the portrayal of profound female destinies from different cultures and ages, created by some of the most central composers within the field of New Music: Alejandro Viñao, Giacinto Scelsi and Luigi Nono. Viñao’s Masago’s confession was originally a scene of the chamber opera Rashomon. Hildegard’s Dream, also composed by Viñao, portrays one of the most famous of Hildegard von Bingen’s religious visions. In, Luigi Nono’s piece La Fabbrica Illuminata, the singer is the commentator of and is placed amid loudspeakers that broadcast the sounds of life and drama in a factory, overdubbed with sequences of choir-song. Scelsi’s piece Hô is based on an ancient word of Sanskrit.
