Strong domestic repertoire sales

Phonogram sales in the first half of 2005 confirm domestic repertoire’s strengthened position on the home market with a whopping 40% increase in volume.

The latest sales figures from the Association of Norwegian Record Distributors tell the tale of a market that embraces its home-grown talent. Domestic repertoire has increased its market share by 40% in volume and 34% in value compared to 2004. The domestic percentage of total sales in the first half of 2005 ended at 35% - a 12% increase compared to last year.

Classical repertoire accounts for 4% of the total sales.

Total accumulated sales in the first six months of 2005 were 4,8m albums. 258 000 singles and 108 000 music DVDs amounting to a turnover of NOK 328m (€41,7m/$51m) – a reduction of 13% in volume and 10% in value compared to last year.

June sales figures show that phonogram sales rose 14% in volume and 14% in value compared to June 2004.

Sales of CD albums are up 19% in volume and 16% in value compared to June last year.

Sales of singles are down 35% in volume and 42% in value compared to last year.

Sales of music DVDs have increased with 4% in volume and decreased with 2% in value compared to June 2004.
