Arve Henriksen: Chiaroscuro

MIC's Listen to Norway series continues with Arve Henriksen's 'Chiaroscuro'

Arve Henriksen - Chiaroscuro

‘Chiaroscuro’ is trumpeter Arve Henriksen’s second solo album and continues in the same beautiful, hushed and lyrical vein that its predecessor established. Carefully edited samples are provided by Jan Bang while Audun Kleive adds sparse but very effective percussion and drum parts. Henriksen’s trademark muted trumpet and wordless vocals adorn the mix beautifully, resulting in a stunning soundscape that’s rich in melodic detail and utterly aesthetic. The sonic landscape is never cluttered with unnecessary details – what is being played is just right for the setting and for the form of expression that Henriksen has refined over the years. Don’t be ashamed if this record brings tears to your eyes – it’s that beautiful.
